Best Advice Ever For The NYC Marathon

So…you registered for the New York City Marathon, the greatest race on the planet.  You have trained, figured out your transportation plan and you are enjoying the taper with restless excitement, counting down the days.  The last thing you have to do is finalize that playlist so that the right song is cranking to help you push through the wall and meander through the rolling hills of Central Park.

We have a cool way for you to organize your music, ideally suited for NYC.  Since its the home of so many great artists, organize your playlist by Borough.  You can time it out so whatever Borough you are will have music playing from an artist from that Borough.

When heading over the Verrazano Bridge, get your heart pumping with the Wu Tang Clan and some Method Man to start your race off strong.

Ohh Summer Half…Where Are You?

It’s become such a point of frustration for us that there are precious few half marathons in the summer months.  Why is this the case?  I’ve heard a handful of excuses like its too hot or its too hard to close streets in the summer.  But I think it’s all BS. We checked and basically every state has summer halfs, yet we only have a few.

Summer is the time when many of us are in the best shape.  Most runners in NJ have been running consistently since the Spring and for many of us, we are at our best come July and August.   There is also more daylight and time for us to focus, so I wish there were more opportunities to run a 13.1 race.  After all, it is the perfect distance.

We have even vetured outside of the friendly confines of the Garden State and run a few halfs in PA.  However, the races we did …

A Walk To Believe: 5K For Eric LeGrand

Folks have a lot of reasons for running 5Ks. It’s a challenge to get off the couch. It’s a way to test your fitness without the grueling aspect of a marathon. It’s just flat-out fun to be part of a race. But the best reason to run a 5K is for a cause that’s near and dear to your heart.

Rutgers football fans have one such cause. They’ve been with the Scarlet Knights through some down, down times. There was a winless season. There was a year they lost to the worst team in the country and then a lower-level team in successive weeks. There’ve been at least two heartbreaking losses with major bowl games on the line. But the most gut-wrenching day for every Loyal Son and Daughter was on October 16th, 2010.

That Saturday, Rutgers took on Army at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It was a close game in which Rutgers mounted a late comeback. On an …
