Last month, we introduced you to one of the most captivating people in the running world…GP Pearlberg. GP does a bit of everything around the running community…author, MC, broadcaster, ambassador…you name it. As impressive as his resume is, perhaps his most impressive role is serving as the head coach of Team Boomer for the Boomer Esiasion Foundation.
Many of us know Boomer Esiason as the legendary quarterback with an amazing left arm and a brilliant football mind. The former NFL MVP had a miraculous career with the Bengals, Jets (until Rich Kotite came along) and the Cardinals. He has since evolved to become one of the game’s most respected annalists and he also co-hosts the nation’s best sports radio show Boomer and Carton. More remarkably than his great career is Boomer’s dedication to Cystic Fibrosis. His passion began when his son Gunner was diagnosed with CF in 1993. Since than,
Boomer has been a tireless advocate for the CF community raising more than $100 million.
The Boomer Esiason Foundation is far more than a charity. They fund the best researchers on the planet. They support individuals and families with CF via scholarships, advocacy, education and other resources such as transplant grants. The organization also educates doctors and caregivers to assist them in providing the best treatment possible. Put simply, they continue to make a tremendous impact to thousands of lives of CF families.
To assist in funding the foundation’s incredible work, Team Boomer was formed. Team Boomer encourages individuals with CF to incorporate exercise into their daily lives and serves as a way to bring awareness to it. The team also provides a great opportunity for all runners to raise awareness and funds for CF via their favorite activity. The team is very active and participates in tons of races throughout the area.
Team Boomer is also an official race charity for the TCS New York City Marathon. Should you choose to run “the greatest race in the world” on behalf of Team Boomer, the benefits are endless. You would join a great team, you would support an outstanding cause and would receive top-notch coaching and training plans from GP Pearlberg. We asked GP about his role as Team Boomer’s Coach:
“It’s truly an honor to be involved with this organization. Boomer is simply great to be around as well as Jerry (Cahill) and everyone involved. For me, assisting someone who is training for a marathon is an unbelievable feeling. It gives me so much joy to see individuals so dedicated and achieving their goals. It is especially rewarding to me when I help runners complete their first marathon. And this race is like no other. New York is such a special race”.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!!! You can fund-raise for Team Boomer for your next race, triathlon, duathlon etc or you could join Team Boomer for the 2015 NYC Marathon. The incredible work of this charity is truly life changing for so many. We strongly encourage runners to support Team Boomer as their efforts are truly life changing for so many families.
