Boston Marathon Winner, Meb, Joins the Belmar Chase

BELMAR, NJ – The organizers of the Belmar Chase 5K announced that 2014 Boston Marathon winner and Olympian Meb Keflezighi will participate in the event live from San Diego via a ProRunnerTalk interactive video chat at the pre-race expo on Friday evening, August 21. The “Coast to Coast” conversation will allow runners to interact with Meb in this unique way and is a first of its kind for the Jersey Shore area.

“We are extremely excited about adding this unique opportunity to our weekend in Belmar this year,” said Rob DeFilippis, Belmar Chase race director and owner of Runner’s High. “To have Meb tell his inspiring story via ProRunnerTalk will be a great way to cap off Friday evening following our kid’s races on the beach.

The 5K race on Saturday, August 22 will bring thousands of runners to the borough of Belmar in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The flat, fast and scenic Ocean Avenue course is the USATF New Jersey Men’s Master’s Championship race and benefits Race2Rebuild’s Superstorm Sandy rebuilding projects on the Jersey Shore. The top two Race2Rebuild fundraisers will each be awarded a signed copy of Keflezighi’s book, Run to Overcome and a pair of Saucony running shoes, courtesy of Runner’s High Specialty running stores. On Sunday, August 23, Race2Rebuild athletes and volunteers will rebuild a Sandy-damaged home for a Seaside Heights family with rebuilding partner St. Bernard Project.

“Runners are going to having a special experience seeing Meb ‘behind the scenes’ and talking to him from his home in San Diego,” said Liam Fayle of ProRunnerTalk. “The Belmar Chase is run almost entirely along the ocean shore and our event with Meb takes place right on the beach.  We are thrilled to be partnering with a true destination race.”

The ProRunnerTalk event is open to the public at no charge, however attendees are asked to RSVP so that an autograph from Meb can be provided to each viewer. Runners can RSVP at www.ProRunnerTalk.com/Belmar. The event will start at 7:30PM on Belmar Beach at 6th Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Belmar.
