Another huge congratulations goes out to the Monmouth University Hawks Winter Track Team! Lead by Coach Joe Compagni, the 2015 season has proven to be one for the ages for the West Long Branch school. Continuing to fill their trophy case, the MU Men edged out Georgetown University and 99 other schools to win the IC4A Championships last week in Boston.
Strong individual performances were turned in by several athletes, notably Jalen Walker winning the 60-meter hurdles. The MU women also notched an impressive 10th out of 86 teams. The 4X800 foursome of Allie Wilson (Wallingford, Pa.), Danielle Leavitt (Forked River, N.J.), Jenna Cupp (Newark Valley, N.Y.) and Tionna Garner (Trenton, N.J.) broke and lowered the school record this weekend in their 2 races.
Compagni summed up the weekend well in praising his team; “Both the men and the women had to put up some elite level performances against some great programs to earn our team finishes”.
We certainly applaud the tremendous effort and success by these student-athletes this winter. The season still continues as MU’s Dylan Capwell recently featured here, competes at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
