Not only was it an awesome race, the Shamrock Marathon of Virginia Beach boasts one of the best post-race atmospheres we have ever experienced. More than 30,000 runners descended on the coastal town for a perfect early season race. The course was flat and extremely fast as many folks we spoke with notched a PR.
More importantly, the race atmosphere was as upbeat as any we have ever experienced. Nearly every participant donned their loudest St. Paddy’s Day gear. There were hundreds of leprechaun costumes, shamrocks, painted faces and tons of Irish spirit. Even better, each participant received not 1, BUT 4 free beers after the race, which got the post race party going.
We absolutely loved this half! As a suggestion for 2016, it’s a great idea to put an early season half on your race calendar, and this should be the one. It forces you to train through the tough Jersey winter, regardless of how brutal the weather is. It’s a phenomenal race and a kick-ass after party.
Congrats to all our Jersey friends who completed this race (full or half). Whether you passed us on the course or bought us a brew afterwards, we salute you all. Job well done on an awesome race.
